Empowering Communities in Eritrea to Ensure Sustainable Water Supply Systems
The study looked at how rural communities in Eritrea can maintain their water supply and sanitation systems. They found that involving the community in decision-making is crucial for long-term success. People need to be willing to pay for the water they use to cover costs. In Berik Sub-Zone, committees with diverse members oversee the system, collect small fees, and ensure regular maintenance. Meetings, monitoring, and good record-keeping also help keep the system running smoothly. Cooperation with local and national governments is key to keeping the water supply and sanitation system sustainable.
