Revolutionary Rice Irrigation Method in Tanzania Boosts Yields and Saves Water
Rice production in Tanzania was studied to find better ways to use water for irrigation. Different methods were tested, and it was found that using the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) with 80% ponding depth saved the most water and produced the highest yields. This method could increase rice production by 1.5 million tons annually and save enough water to support a 50% expansion of rice-growing areas in Tanzania.
