Inter vivos transfers from parents to children are more likely to go to less well-off children, while bequests are divided equally. This is because inter vivos transfers are influenced by the recipient's current income, while bequests are not. The study used data from the Health and Retirement Study and the Asset and Health Dynamics Study to support these findings.
