Competition for novice borrowers may worsen access to financial services.
Access to credit is a problem in many developing countries. A study looked at how new borrowers get loans and how repayment data affects this. The study used a model based on different types of lenders and people. Results show that many people, including those who choose not to, can't get credit. Different lenders offer different loan conditions. Sharing repayment data can make it harder for new borrowers to get loans. It's better to focus on giving more information to people without bank accounts than to those with a loan history.
