Restrictive immigration policies hinder integration potential for non-OECD migrants in Europe.
Restricting immigration policies in European countries do not necessarily lead to the admission of more educated migrants, but they do make it more likely for migrants from European OECD countries to be admitted. These policies also affect economic, political, and social integration outcomes, especially for immigrants from non-OECD countries. However, the effects are small and limited to specific outcomes and regions. Overall, the assumption that immigration restrictions foster migrant integration is not fully supported by the findings of this study.
