Global income gains of $160 billion per year from trade reform.
The Doha Market Access Proposals aim to reduce tariffs on goods traded between countries. The study shows that these proposals would cut tariffs in industrial countries by half and lower them slightly in developing countries for agriculture. In non-agricultural sectors, developing countries would face lower tariff peaks, and industrial countries would see a significant decrease in average tariffs. Despite some flexibility in the proposals, developing countries could benefit from a 20% reduction in agriculture tariffs and a 27% reduction in non-agriculture tariffs. The estimated global income gains from these reforms could reach up to $160 billion per year.
