Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008, but many people are planning to leave the country. A survey in 2008 found that 30% of Albanian-speaking residents are actively preparing to move abroad, with educated and wealthier individuals more likely to leave. Surprisingly, ethnic Serbs are less likely to emigrate compared to the majority ethnic group in Kosovo.
