Groundwater and surface water management could transform agriculture in Pakistan
Scientists used tools like satellites and Geographic Information Systems to analyze how water is used in an area called Rechna Doab in Pakistan. Their main aim was to understand how people there use both surface water (like rivers and lakes) and groundwater for farming. By studying different data, they found that farmers in Rechna Doab mostly rely on groundwater for irrigation instead of surface water. This could affect how water resources are managed in the future.
