Temporary Workers Hurt by Cyclical Shifts in Skilled Employment
The study looked at how the types of workers in Spain's job market changed in the 1990s. They found that existing companies were the main reason for the increase in skilled workers. Companies that were growing hired more skilled workers. New companies also helped by bringing in skilled workers and letting go of less skilled ones. Companies with more temporary workers made bigger changes in their workforce. Low-skilled jobs were more likely to change with the economy than high-skilled jobs.
