The UN Security Council has shown interest in incorporating human security into its discussions, particularly regarding issues like HIV/AIDS, food security, climate change, and protection of civilians. The concept of human security has influenced the development of the responsibility to protect policy, which was endorsed in 2005. However, debates have arisen over the Security Council's authority and ability to address human security issues within the UN collective security system.
