Sediment flow in Nakdong River drastically reduced post-dam construction, impacting ecosystem.
The study analyzed changes in sediment transportation in Nakdong River due to weir operations. By studying flow and sediment data at four key points along the river, the researchers found that sediment transport capacity decreased after the construction of dams. They also identified a method that accurately predicts sediment transport capacity, with the Engelund-Hansen formula showing the smallest error. Overall, sediment deposition was found to be dominant in the entire Nakdong River, highlighting the need for improved methods to estimate sediment input from tributaries.
