The 'Green Revolution' in agriculture introduced high-yielding crop varieties and external inputs like fertilizers and pesticides to increase food production. However, this led to environmental damage and health hazards due to overuse of chemicals. Traditional farming methods were replaced, causing issues like pest resistance and pollution. This approach is not sustainable and threatens food security. Sri Lanka faces challenges like natural disasters and globalization affecting its agriculture. To ensure food security and environmental sustainability, a shift towards traditional farming wisdom and empowering farmers is needed.
