The article analyzes how a rise in commodity prices affects food prices in the euro area. By using a unique database that considers the Common Agricultural Policy in the EU, the researchers found that there is a significant and lasting impact on food prices. They discovered that commodity prices were the main reason for the increase in producer and consumer prices during the 2007-08 period. This study helps to explain why food prices in the euro area can change so much when commodity prices go up.
