Procurement auctions are moving online, giving bidders more information. A study tested how knowing cost estimate precision affects bidder profits. Surprisingly, more understanding of estimate precision can decrease profits. However, knowing just one's own precision can help avoid overpaying in some cases. Knowing competitors' precision doesn't help. This suggests that too much transparency in auctions may not always be beneficial.
