The article explores how the joining of 10 Central and Eastern European Countries to the European Union affected trade in Europe. By analyzing trade data from 1995 to 2009, the researchers found that EU accession mainly boosted Eastern countries' involvement in other Eastern countries' production chains. There were also some benefits for trade in services between Eastern and Western countries, particularly in low-skill activities.
