Political science educators are exploring ways to help students think critically about political ideas beyond their automatic assumptions. Recent research shows that people often rely on ingrained beliefs without truly thinking. To challenge this, educators are looking to introduce new ideas that disrupt these automatic thought patterns. The study aims to understand how automatic thinking works, identify common preexisting beliefs among students, and suggest ways to address automatic thinking in the classroom.
