Recent welfare reforms are leading to welfare recipients being placed in temporary jobs through help service firms. These jobs may pay less and offer fewer benefits. However, welfare recipients who work for temporary help firms see faster wage growth compared to other sectors. Two years later, their wages are close to those who started in different jobs, and they are not more likely to be unemployed or remain on welfare.
