EU Enlargement Ensures Shared Values and Rights for All Citizens
The European Union has been working on becoming more legitimate by focusing on national democracy and European citizenship. They have been using Qualified-Majority Voting to make decisions, even if some countries disagree. When the EU expanded to include more countries in Central and Eastern Europe, they made sure these new members shared their values, especially regarding human rights. This helped the EU show that they act in the best interests of all European citizens.
