Majority of Futures Contracts Show No Maturity Effect, Impacting Commodity Markets.
The study looked at a lot of futures contracts to see if their prices get more volatile as they get closer to ending. They found that for most contracts, this isn't true. It seems to happen more with agricultural and energy contracts than with financial ones. They also checked a theory that says the way prices and costs change can cause this effect, but the evidence for it was weak.
