Domestic factors drive stock returns in new European countries, outpacing global influence.
The study looked at how different economic factors affect stock returns in four 'new' European countries and compared them to 'old' western European countries and the USA. They found that the stock markets in the 'new' European countries are not closely connected to foreign markets, and that domestic economic activity and the German economy have a bigger impact on their stock markets than the American economy.
