Small-scale farmers in Burundi face challenges due to limited land and poverty. To improve agricultural production, specialists suggest focusing on specific crops. By using a mathematical model, researchers found that different types of farms can benefit from specializing in certain crops. Large farms can increase profits by growing specific crops, while landless households can earn more by focusing on labor-intensive crops. However, for this to work, farmers need better access to markets, storage, and credit.
