Real wages in Spain show little adjustment during economic downturns.
Real wages in Spain tend to move in line with the economy, being slightly higher during economic expansions and lower during recessions. Surprisingly, when unemployment is high during recessions, wages don't adjust much. However, in times of low unemployment during expansions, wages tend to increase more. New workers' wages are most affected by the economy, while long-term workers are more shielded from economic downturns. Temporary workers and younger workers also feel the effects of the business cycle more than permanent and older workers.
