African Farmers Face Worsening Incentives for Fertilizer Use
African farmers are not getting better incentives to use fertilizer. The cost of fertilizer compared to crop prices is still high, and it's even higher than before for most crops. The response of crops to fertilizer is not as good as it used to be. Transportation costs are a big reason why fertilizer prices are high for small farmers. To make fertilizer use more efficient, we need to improve infrastructure and programs that help farmers get closer to fertilizer and increase crop response rates.
