Federal courts in the United States have limits on how far they can assert authority over defendants. While the Constitution allows for broad jurisdiction based on minimum contacts, federal courts are typically restricted to the states they are in. This is due to a rule in the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. The article argues for changing this rule to allow federal courts to have broader jurisdiction in line with the Constitution.
