Monopoly power in electricity markets stifles competition, harms residential customers.
Incumbent companies with a lot of power in the electricity market can make it hard for new companies to compete. This study looks at how the AT&T antitrust case can help us understand this issue. By looking at how to separate the monopoly power from the competitive parts of the market, we can make things better for customers. The slow progress in making electricity markets more competitive is because we haven't done a good job of keeping the monopoly power in check.
