Bankruptcy auctions revolutionize asset redeployment for financially distressed firms.
Bankruptcy auctions are a common way to sell off assets of financially troubled companies, but the best way to design these auctions is still a mystery. Researchers have not yet figured out the most effective method for conducting bankruptcy auctions, such as whether to use an English or sealed-bid auction, or whether to set a reserve price. Despite the widespread use of bankruptcy auctions, little attention has been given to how to design them optimally.
