German Metal Industry Prices Adjust Quickly to Market Changes
Price setting in German metal-working industries was studied from 1980 to 2001. The analysis showed that price changes are influenced by both time and state factors. Time-dependence plays a bigger role, especially when a price increase follows another increase. This effect is strongest after specific quarters. State-dependence is more relevant during periods of decreasing demand, leading firms to reduce prices with shorter intervals between cuts.
