Immigrants face higher welfare risk due to poor labor market integration.
The study looked at how people in Germany, both natives and immigrants, enter and leave welfare programs after changes to the system. They found that immigrants are more likely to start receiving welfare and less likely to stop compared to natives. This is mainly because immigrants struggle more to find stable jobs. Immigrants from non-EU countries, like Turkey or former Yugoslavia, face the toughest challenges in the job market, with low employment stability and high rates of welfare dependence.
