The article analyzes the sustainability of public finances in the European Union using a 3-step approach. They first test if government spending and revenue levels are stable over time. Then, they examine the relationship between these two factors. The results show that while overall EU finances are not unsustainable, many countries face challenges in maintaining fiscal sustainability. Specifically, government spending has a weaker impact on revenue in the long run.
