Rejected disability insurance applicants face low earnings and limited work opportunities.
Rejected disability insurance applicants have lower employment rates and earnings compared to other men their age. Data from surveys conducted in 1972 and 1978 show that less than half of rejected male applicants work, and those who do earn less than half of the median earnings of their peers. This challenges the idea that disability insurance has a significant negative impact on work incentives.
