Online Retailers Face New Sales Tax Rules After Wayfair Decision
The Wayfair decision in June 2018 changed the rule that states can only collect sales taxes from sellers with a physical presence. Now, states can require out-of-state sellers to pay sales tax even without a physical presence. South Dakota set a threshold for sellers to pay tax if they make a certain amount of sales in the state. Other states are following suit. Congress may let states handle this issue on their own.
