Intercropping chickpea and mustard boosts yields and sustainability in agriculture.
A study was conducted to see how chickpeas and mustard plants grow together in different row combinations. They found that planting chickpeas with mustard in a 2:2 row ratio resulted in taller chickpea plants. However, planting chickpeas with mustard in a 4:2 row ratio gave the highest yields for both crops. This combination produced 6.87 q/ha of mustard seeds and an additional 9.90 q/ha of chickpeas. Overall, intercropping chickpeas with mustard can increase plant height, yield, and other important factors for both crops.
