India's coastal lines have great potential for tidal energy. Tidal current turbines can provide reliable renewable energy to these areas. The paper reviews tidal energy projects worldwide and the turbines used. It analyzes Indian sites for their suitability for tidal current technology and estimates potential power output. Challenges in adopting this technology are also discussed.
