Effect of filter media and hydraulic retention time on the performance of vertical constructed wetland system treating dairy farm wastewater

Paper Summary

Dairy farm wastewater was treated using vertical constructed wetlands with Canna indica plants. Different filter media and retention times were tested. Results showed that longer retention times improved pollutant removal. CW-B with 10mm gravel had the best performance, removing the most phosphorous, oxygen demand, and nitrogen. Larger gravel size led to better removal of nitrogen.
