Weight-based waste pricing could reduce household waste and promote recycling.
The article analyzed 21 studies to see how the price of waste collection affects how much waste people produce. They found that the size of the study, the type of pricing system used, and whether compostable waste was priced all influenced the results. Contrary to previous beliefs, municipal data did not show higher price elasticity than household data. The study also found that the USA and point estimations had more elastic results, but this was not consistent across different models. Overall, there was no bias in the results, but there was some real effect seen in the data.
