Food Processing Hubs Thrive Near Demand and Supply Hotspots, Struggle in Rural Areas
The study looked at how being close to other food processing centers and having high purchasing power can save money for states in the food industry. They found that being near other food manufacturing centers and having neighboring states with agriculture-based economies can lead to cost savings. However, being located in heavily agricultural or rural states may actually be costly due to thin markets and challenges with infrastructure and labor markets.
