Public sector male employees in Britain earn significantly more than private sector counterparts.
The study looked at the wages of full-time male workers in the public and private sectors in Britain in 2004. They found that, on average, men in the public sector earn more than those in the private sector. This is mainly because public sector workers have characteristics that lead to higher pay and work in higher-paid jobs. The study also showed that there is less workplace segregation in the public sector compared to the private sector. Additionally, there is no significant pay gap based on ethnic background in the public sector, unlike in the private sector. Overall, the public sector is no longer just for low-skilled workers, and working conditions are more consistent in the public sector.
