The offshoring of high-tech services has increased in recent years, affecting the demand for skilled workers in firms. A study on Spanish companies from 2004-2009 shows that R&D offshoring is linked to a higher demand for researchers. Specifically, for services firms, a 1% increase in R&D offshoring leads to an 11% increase in the need for researchers. This suggests that R&D offshoring and skilled employment are positively related, indicating they work well together as productive inputs.
