Wage Bargaining Shapes Economic Cycles, Altering Incomes for Generations
In a study about wage bargaining in a business cycle model, the researchers looked at how current wage negotiations affect future bargaining power. Even when aiming for long-term goals, the parties cannot make commitments beyond one period. By merging ideas from bargaining theory and subgame consistency, the study showed that the solution to these interactions is both existing and unique. Surprisingly, there are similarities between short-sighted and far-sighted negotiation strategies in this framework.
