Biofuel expansion could worsen climate change until 2043, new study warns.
The research looked at how biofuels impact climate change. They used a computer model to see what would happen if biofuels made from crops were produced with new land taken from forests and pastures. Results showed that if forests are used, it can actually make greenhouse gas emissions worse until 2043. But if they stick to taking land only from pastures, emissions could stop going up as soon as 2021. Also, more biofuels don't always mean more deforestation; in fact, deforestation might slow down even if biofuel production goes up.
