Gender wage gap shrinking as women make significant progress in Canada.
The new study looked at the pay gap between men and women in Canada using wage data instead of earnings data. They found that women have been making progress in closing the gap over the past fifteen years. In 2006, the wage-based ratio was 0.85, while the earnings-based ratio was only 0.72. The remaining gap in wages that cannot be explained by gender differences in characteristics valued by the labor market has been increasing as the gender wage ratio rises.
