Business services firms that export are generally more productive and pay higher wages compared to firms that only serve the national market. Exporters in France have significantly larger profitability, while in Germany it is smaller. However, in the UK, profitability does not differ significantly. Before starting to export, firms that end up exporting are already more productive and pay higher wages. Surprisingly, less profitable German business services firms tend to self-select into exporting, unlike firms from France and the UK.
