Slovenian workers face slow re-employment process after displacement.
The study looked at worker displacement in Slovenia during its transition period. Workers with more experience, profitable firms, and higher expected severance costs were less likely to be laid off or quit. Displaced workers in Slovenia faced slow re-employment, with only one-third finding new jobs. Those who were displaced experienced wage growth slower than similar workers who were not displaced. After accounting for selection bias, real wage losses for displaced workers in Slovenia were similar to those in North America.
