The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) aims to create a single market and production base, boost economic development, and integrate into the global economy. Progress has been made in reducing tariffs, but challenges remain in removing non-tariff barriers and liberalizing services and investment. As of end-2011, only 67.5% of the AEC Blueprint actions had been completed.
