Unsuitable soil pH and texture hinder chickpea growth and yield.
The study looked at how different soil types and pH levels affect the growth of chickpeas. They tested three types of soil in a field trial and a greenhouse experiment. Despite the sandy clay loam soil having a pH below the recommended level, it still produced a good crop. The other soil types didn't do as well due to unsuitable pH levels and toxicities. In the greenhouse, changing the pH of the soil didn't make a big difference in plant growth.
