Unlocking International Success: Key Factors for Southern African Entrepreneurs
The article explores how small businesses in Southern Africa expand internationally. Researchers surveyed 1,900 firms and found four key factors that influence the internationalization process: accelerators, export barriers, market development choices, and outcomes. They discovered that these firms prefer exporting and share common influences, strategies, and market results. The study suggests that firms aiming to go global should focus on hiring and training staff with international experience, while policymakers should support small businesses to boost international growth. This research fills a gap in understanding how Southern African firms expand globally, offering valuable insights for academics, small businesses, and policymakers.
