Public Sector Jobs Offer Greater Satisfaction, Attracting Talented Workers
Public sector jobs are found to provide higher job satisfaction compared to private sector jobs. A study using data from post-Soviet Ukraine shows that workers who ended up in the public sector were less satisfied with their jobs than those who went into the private sector. This suggests that individuals who are less satisfied with their jobs tend to self-select into the public sector. The difference in satisfaction levels between the two sectors can be partly attributed to the availability of fringe benefits, which are more common in the public sector.
