Brazil lags behind US in tax redistribution, but similar in social spending.
The study compared taxes and social spending in Brazil and the United States. Both countries spend around 40% of their GDP on public services. The US redistributes more through taxes and transfers, while Brazil's cash and food programs are less progressive. However, when health and education spending are considered, both countries achieve similar levels of redistribution. This could be because wealthier households in Brazil choose private services over public ones, rather than the government making spending more fair.
