Postmodern critique leads to radical interventions for economic justice
The article explores how postmodern ideas impact democracy and economic justice. It critiques Lyotard's views on morality and justice, finding them to lead to ethical problems. Derrida's attempts to save philosophy from linguistic nihilism fall short of providing a positive account of norms. Instead, the paper suggests using Hegel's dialectics to understand democracy and economic justice. It argues that developing appropriate institutions is crucial for economic justice to be meaningful. By considering psychoanalytical theories, a dynamic approach to individual formation is proposed, with interventions needed in unjust settings for moral agency to flourish.
