Social connections influence generosity: Study shows social integration boosts altruism.
The study looked at how being connected in a social network affects how generous people are. They had students play a game where they could share money with others in their group. The results showed that people are more likely to share with their friends and that how connected someone is in the group also influences their generosity. Basically, the more isolated someone is in the group, the more likely they are to be selfish. This means that knowing how people are connected in a group can help predict how they will behave towards others.
